MID-SEMESTER EXAM

English Writing Skills

Date: Wednesday 2nd November 2011, 2pm - 4pm (120 minutes)

You will have to produce 6 short pieces of writing (long paragraphs) in 2 hours.

You should not spend the whole two hours writing: take time to think, plan and check your writing.

I am looking for quality rather than quantity.

There will be 3 sections of questions to choose from.

The subject matter of these three sections will be as follows:

ARTICLES ON THE BLOG ABOUT THE WRITING PROCESS.
You will have to choose at least 1 question from the 5 available topics. You can prepare for this by reading the blog content that is specifically about writing skills, the stages of essay writing, or other articles about the writing process.

ARTICLES ON THE BLOG ABOUT VARIOUS TOPICS (GENERAL READING MATERIAL).
You will have to choose at least 3 questions from the 10 questions available. You can prepare for this by reading the blog content.

TOPICS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN COVERED BY THE BLOG.
These will be questions about topics that are not on the blog and will give you the opportunity to express your opinion about a topic for which you have not prepared specifically. You will have to choose at least 1 question from the 5 available topics.

So that is SIX pieces of writing in total. Five of those questions must be selected as directed above. You will then have to choose the 6th question from whichever section you want.
